Animal Adoptions!

Our life science unit is officially over and we are looking for homes for the animals.
There are:
  • 8 African Dwarf Frogs (live in water only)
  • 5 Guppies
  • 6 Snails
If you would like your child to adopt one or more of these animals, please sign the permission slip and indicate what you are willing to take care of. A paper copy of the permission slip will be sent home today or you can fill it out on the permission slips and forms page of the blog.

All of these animals live in an aquarium with water. I have some food that I can send temporarily, but you will need to buy more food for the frogs and guppies. Snails eat the algae that forms on the tank.

Thanks a lot!

Tenmarks Summer Program-Math Practice

TenMarks Summer Program

Summer learning loss happens with all subjects, but math and literacy are often the biggest cause for concern because they're the foundation for all future learning.
Without regular practice, students' hard-earned math skills tend to diminish over the summer months. In fact, research has shown that students can lose up to 3 months of grade-level equivalency skills every summer. To help eliminate (or at least mitigate) summer learning loss, we've created a program that is personalized for every student to meet their unique needs.

How?

It's simple! When you sign up for the summer program, we'll ask you for the grade level your student will be entering in the Fall. Based on that information, we'll create a diagnostic assessment, which is the first thing your student will do.
Once they've completed the assessment, we'll instantly evaluate the results and create a customized curriculum to meet their specific needs, whether it's catching them up on concepts they didn't master last year or preparing them for the year ahead.

How It Works

Students are guided through their personalized curriculum, one concept at a time. They receive "smart worksheets" on each topic, with the goal of helping them master that topic.
Each worksheet has 10 unique problems - of varying types and difficulty. While working on the problems, student can use hints and video lessons to refresh what they know, learn what they don't.
Students work at their own pace, on their own time. The TenMarks approach engages students and provides help when needed. Rewards, games, and certificates motivate them to succeed.

Cost

Our summer program is very affordable at $39.99 per student. We're sure your student will love the program, but we offer a money-back guarantee! Let us know within two weeks and we'll give you a full refund. Sign up!

Homework this weekend

The homework this weekend is to work on the math assignments on tenmarks.com that have been assigned. There are two new assignments. Although I haven't been regularly assigning work from the site, there are lots of practice problems that your child can do in the folders by topic (eg. geometry, measurement, division, multiplication, etc.). These assignments are meant to reinforce skills we've been learning in school over the course of the year.

Hot Dogs for Breakfast, Leis, Quizzes, Mardi Gras Beads, Peaches and More!

This week we have seen some creative elements added to exhibitions to make them more interesting. Brooklynn gave out hot dogs to help get the experience of New York's street vendor experience. There's nothing like hot dogs at 9am! Alayna provided colorful leis to go with her Hawaiian vacation. Briana gave a short pop quiz at the end of her exhibition to see who was listening to her Arizona vacation presentation. Lindsay gave out Mardi Gras beads to signify a visit to New Orleans, LA. Dylan provided peaches at the end of his presentation to help people remember the nickname for Georgia. These were great ideas that kept the audience involved in the presentation. Good thinking! You can see video of the exhibitions on the VIDEOS page of the blog. Just press the 'VIDEOS' button above.

To the rescue...

Thanks so much to those families who sent in snacks this week: Tia's, Nevaeh's, Adia's, Johanna's, Briana's, and Jayden's families all sent in snacks this week. We're glad that you helped out. Many of you have been a continual help with snack donations all year. Thank you for reaching into your pockets to help us out. For many, the economy is tight, so I know that it is a sacrifice.  We are very grateful.
